ABBYY FineReader PDF is a PDF and OCR reader and editor. It combines both of the vital features and provides you with an all-in-one software that will do everything you will need a PDF editor and OCR reader to do for you.

OCR feature

For starters, OCR stands for Optical Character Recognition. While it has been available in various software for a while now, ABBYY provides you with an advanced version of OCR capability within the application that you can use to scan documents and then save them as OCR projects, images, word documents, or PDFs.

Now, there are two ways to get started. One is to digitally scan documents, while the other is to scan using a hardware device such as a scanner and then import them into your PC. If you want to get started, you can either open the ABBYY Hot Folder or the PDF Reader. If you open the Hot Folder, then you can apply filters such as folders to scan files from and then scan them. If you open it through the PDF Reader, you will have to click on the Scan button from the left menu.

Once you have clicked, you can choose to scan using a hardware scanner by clicking on OCR Editor. Or you can digitally scan PDF documents and so much more. For the first option, you will require a hardware scanner attached to your PC. Furthermore, if OCR cannot read your document properly, it will highlight it for you and provide you with a textbox so you can choose to write the required text.

One of the best OCR capabilities that FineReader offers is the support for multiple languages. If you head to File > Options > Languages, you will find a lot of languages from which you can choose to use OCR. Please note that most scanners and cameras are compatible with ABBYY FineReader PDF, so there should not be anything to worry about.

Editing documents

Once you have scanned your required documents, the FineReader will provide you with two windows. One will house your original document and the other will have an editable option. You can edit them however you require because ABBYY FineReader PDF provides you with basic editing features including forms, adding signatures, highlighting, redacting, watermarking, merging multiple documents, and more.

ABBY FineReader is a fine application that is easy to use with its simple yet modern UI. The main screen has three different sections namely Scan, Scan to, and left menu. Users will find OCR Editor and PDF Document which are the main specialties of the application under the Scan section.

Under the Scan to section, you can find Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Image Files, and Other formats. And on the left side menu, it has the options of Open, Scan, Compare, and Mobile Application.

The ABBYY FineReader comes with a 7-day free trial for individuals or a 30-day trial for businesses. The 30-day trial can be availed only on request though. If you wish to buy the software, there are 3 versions you can choose from. The Standard version is available at the lowest price of 99€ per year, but monthly options are available as well. Then the Corporate version is available for 165€ per year with additional discounts if you buy more than 5 licenses.

The difference between the Standard and Corporate version is the functionality of document comparison and automated conversion of 5000 pages per month.
